NYC Eats: Grand Lux Cafe

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Hey guys !

Its Lay.

For today’s blog post I thought I would do a review on a food place. New York City has many parts, 5 boroughs to be exact which is: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Staten Island. When people think of New York, they automatically think of time square but there is so much other places you can visit. So I want to use this as apart of " Adventures with Lay" to help people discover new things they can do if they live in New York or is visiting.

The Grand Lux Cafe was founded in 1999 from their parent organization The cheesecake factory which happens to be one of my favorite places to eat. In New York, it is located in Garden City and happens to be next to Roosevelt Field mall and an AMC movie theater.

They have lovely decor.

I went there about 2 times. The first time was October 20th, 2018 with my brother and the second time I went was with my best guy friend February 2nd, 2019 (aka one day ago from when I'm writing this).

I believe the first time I experienced it was better than my second. The first time I went I ordered the Hawaiian Smoothie, the regular 3 mini tacos as an appetizer and Chicken Parmesan as an entree.

The second time I ordered it my guy friend and I split food the food we ordered. So I has some of the sandwich he ordered which came with free fries but he requested cheese on them (so they charged him like an extra $3), He got a strawberry smoothie and empanadas (which were beef). I ordered the Asian Tacos, an chicken Enchilada from the lunch special and a Hawaiian Smoothie.

The Hawaiian smoothie is like mango and coconut from what I remember. It's so sweet and savory but if you hate the taste of coconut. In comparison, I felt like the strawberry one was a bit more sour. Also I love chicken parmesan more because Italian is my favorite type of food but if you love Spanish food the enchilada will be savory to you. The sandwich my friend had we didn't particularly like because the bacon was a bit hard and the sandwich was just hard to bite with the combination of it being cold. Also the fries were a bit burnt at some places and it wasn't good because it was sprinkles with regular cheddar cheese instead of like melted cheese. In the case of the appetizers I felt like the regular tacos were better than the Asian style ones because of the unique flavor of the asians. We both really like the empanadas as well.

My two favorite thing I had yesterday were the Hawaiian smoothie and the empanadas hands down. My least favorite were the fries because that is a lot to pay for a bit of cheese.

The price range: it varies but most time my entrees are 12- 15 (they have things a bit pricer) , I believe the smoothies were $7.5 - $8 and appetizers are around that $7.5 -$10. Also you need to tip.

Would I go back again: Yes but I will stick to the pastas and the things I am familiar with. However everyone has unique tastebuds and I completely encourage people to try new things.

I hope you guys enjoyed this review and share it with your friend and family.

Until next time,

XOXO Lay 💋
